About
The performance of 'La Tabernera del Puerto', one of the best known and most recognized works of Spanish zarzuela, which will arrive at the Palacio de la Paz on November 7, at 8:00 p.m., by the Teatro Lírico Andaluz company.
The work, premiered in 1936, is considered one of the summits of the Spanish lyrical genre. It is a zarzuela in three acts, defined as a 'sailor's romance', with music by Pablo Sorozábal and libretto by Federico Romero and Guillermo Fernández-Shaw.
The story takes place in Cantabreda, an imaginary fishing port in northern Spain shrouded in a foggy environment marked by seafaring activity and clandestine businesses. At the center of the plot is Marola, a young woman who runs a tavern and whose presence awakens the passions, jealousy and suspicions of the town's inhabitants.
Among the main characters is also Leandro, a young fisherman in love with Marola, who will have to face different obstacles in order to live their love. At the same time, Juan de Eguía, a veteran seafarer linked to smuggling, will try to manipulate events to achieve his purposes.
The plot combines love, jealousy, intrigue, smuggling, persecutions and entanglements, in a story that culminates in Marola's liberation from Eguía's influence and the triumph of love between the two young men.
