About

The Fuengirola City Council, through the Department of Culture and the Network of Municipal Libraries, in collaboration with OQO Editora, celebrates on October 26 and 27 the conference 'Fuengirola Ilustra. Stories that are looked at', an initiative dedicated to the illustrated album that will bring together authors, illustrators, teachers, mediators and readers around the creative and narrative possibilities of this literary genre.

The programme will address aspects such as the creative process, the expressive capacity of images, the relationship between text and illustration, oral storytelling and the educational applications of the illustrated album. To this end, it will feature five renowned professionals: Roger Olmos, Txabi Arnal, Isabel Borda, Charo Pita and Pep Montserrat, who will share their knowledge and experiences through presentations and a practical activity.

Program of the conference

The programme will begin on Monday, 26 October, at 4:45 p.m., with the reception of the participants. The official opening will take place at 4:50 p.m. and, at 5:00 p.m., the illustrator Roger Olmos will open the meeting with the presentation 'Look, how beautiful!', focused on the ability of images to transmit emotions, ideas and meanings beyond words.

At 6:15 p.m., the author Txabi Arnal will offer the conference 'Children's literature: this is how I feel it, how I practice it', in which he will share his particular vision of the process of literary creation, from the first ideas and the construction of characters to the search for endings capable of awakening the reader's reflection.

Monday's session will conclude at 7:30 p.m. with Isabel Borda, specialist in Children's Literature, who will give the presentation 'Reading the illustrated album in the classroom: look, think, speak'. Her intervention will delve into guided and dialogic reading, the expression of emotions and the shared construction of meanings based on the dialogue between text and image.

On Tuesday, October 27, at 5:00 p.m., the author and oral storyteller Charo Pita will open the second session with 'Looking with the ear', a proposal that will explore the links between oral narration, writing and illustration, as well as the influence of orality in the creation of illustrated albums.

At 6:15 p.m., the illustrator Pep Montserrat will present 'The album as a stage', a reflection on the visual narrative and expressive possibilities of the contemporary illustrated album based on a selection of outstanding works.

To close the conference, at 7:30 p.m., Txabi Arnal and Pep Montserrat will give the practical workshop 'The illustrated album: reading and creating'. Participants will be able to experiment with different ways of telling stories by transforming texts, modifying their structures and transferring part of the story to visual language.

These days are part of the program linked to the V International Illustrated Album Award City of Fuengirola, whose presentation will be attended by Marjorie Pourchet. The activities related to the award will include the presentation of the winning album and meetings with schoolchildren, reinforcing the connection between artistic creation, libraries and children.
