The Roman site of Suel is located in the park of the Sohail Castle , which covers more than 60,000 square meters. Specifically , it is located on the right bank of the mouth of the Fuengirola River .  

With Phoenician roots, this settlement was located in the important Roman province of Baetica. Its location was a strategic center on the Via Aurelia that connected Malacca with Gades and, over time, became a key trading port. The name of Suhayl, adopted in Arab times, it has survived to the present day under the name of Sohail Castle . 

The Roman City of Suel reached its splendour thanks to the salted fish and  garum trade, which was consumed and exported throughout the empire. The most visible remains today are of the factory dedicated to the preservation of  food - for which salt was used - and a   Roman industrial area. 

At present, the General Research Project of the Roman City of Suel site allows the development of various scientific fields for the historical research of the site in order to have a greater understanding of the preserved remains.
